Felician Completes Season With 77-75 Senior Night Loss

Box Score

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The Felician College men's basketball team concluded its 2013-14 season with a 77-75 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss to visiting Concordia (N.Y.) College on Tuesday night at Job Gymnasium.

Felician (6-20, 4-15 CACC) celebrated Senior Night prior to the game, and honored the careers of center Garrett Ellwood (Cairns, Australia/St. Mary's Catholic) and guard Anthony Obery (Roselle, N.J./Abraham Clark) in a brief ceremony.

It was a Concordia senior, however, that stole the show. Playing his final collegiate game, Clipper guard Norman Pope (Washington, D.C./St. John's College) scored 34 points, including the game-winning jump shot with 0:04.3 remaining in regulation. Playing all 40 minutes, Pope shot 12 of 19 from the floor, including 7 for 10 from three-point range, and added three assists and three steals.

Concordia freshman center Rome Jenkins (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) split a pair of free throws with 1:58 to play that left the score tied at 72-72. Felician had two chances at a go-ahead basket, running the shot clock down each time, but was unable to convert. Pope pulled up for a go-ahead three-point field goal at 0:37, but the Golden Falcons immediately pushed the ball upcourt and Obery left a pass for J.R. Pringley (Elizabeth, N.J./Linden), who tied the game for the 10th time with a three from the left elbow at 0:31.

With the shot clock off, the Clippers (5-21, 5-14) ran off as much time as they could, until Pope found himself heavily guarded on the right baseline. He launched for a well-contested fall-away jumper, and swished it through. Out of a time-out, a baseball pass by Will Thompson (Teaneck, N.J./Teaneck) eventually led Obery to a chance to drive the lane from the right, but his well-defended lay-up fell off the right side of the rim as time expired.

Pringley shot 10 for 13 from the field and topped Felician with 25 points. Sophomore guard Jamal Reid (Newark, N.J./East Side) scored 15 points with six rebounds, and Jarryd Horsley-Fordham (Orange, N.J./Marist) totaled seven points and a career-best 14 rebounds in 27 bench minutes. Freshman Andrew Peacock (Upper Marlboro, Md./Paul VI) posted 12 points and five assists for the Clippers.

Concordia led by as many as nine points in the first half and 41-38 at halftime. Felician took its largest advantage, 47-41, with 16:43 to play in regulation. The lead changed hands 16 times on the night.

Obery played 31 minutes and recorded 13 points and six rebounds. Ellwood grabbed a rebound in five minutes of action.
