Box Score LAKEWOOD, N.J. – The Felician College men's basketball team shot 66 percent from the field in the second half, and used a late 11-0 run to pull away for a 94-87 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over host Georgian Court University on Saturday afternoon at the GCU Wellness Center.
Felician's pair of starting junior forwards shouldered a great deal of the scoring and rebounding load. J.R. Pringley (Elizabeth, N.J./Linden) shot 12 for 15 from the field and finished with 27 points, 10 rebounds and three steals. Meanwhile, classmate Jeyvi Miavivululu (Paterson, N.J./Paterson Catholic) was 8 for 11 from the floor and 7 for 7 at the foul line. Miavivululu posted 23 points and 15 boards as the Golden Falcons racked up a 48-33 rebounding advantage.
Felician (5-16, 3-11 CACC) survived a season-high 34-point effort from Georgian Court freshman forward Keith Hughes (Woodbridge, N.J./Robinson School). Hughes canned five of the Lions' 10 three-point field goals on the day. GCU junior Jordan Wejnert (Point Pleasant, N.J.) totaled 25 points, nine rebounds and five assists.
A three-pointer by the Lions' Lindon Lulgjuraj (Bloomfield, N.J./Robinson School) tied the game for the ninth and final time at 76-76 with four minutes, 56 seconds, remaining in regulation. The Golden Falcons then held GCU scoreless for the next 3:31 of game action, and Pringley scored five points as the visitors' built an 87-76 advantage. Felician then went 7 for 10 from the foul line in the last 80 seconds to secure the victory.
The Golden Falcons snapped a 12-game losing streak, picking up their first win since Dec. 2. Felician also avoided becoming the first CACC victim for GCU (2-19, 0-14), a first-year program.
Each of Felician's starting guards established career highs for assists. Senior Anthony Obery (Roselle, N.J./Abraham Clark) scored 13 points and dished out eight assists, and sophomore Jamal Reid (Newark, N.J./East Side) scored seven points with nine helpers. Another guard, junior Owen Barnes (Teaneck, N.J./Teaneck) came off the bench to match a career best with 11 points in 21 minutes.
After trailing, 41-37, at halftime, Felician tallied 57 second-half points. Its 94 total points were a season-high, and tied for the most in coach David DeFerrari's five-year tenure. The Golden Falcons shot 52 percent from the floor for the day.
