Concordia Beats Buzzer To Stun Men's Basketball, 84-83

Box Score

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Concordia (N.Y.) College drained a pair of three-point field goals in the last 10 seconds, including one which beat the final buzzer, to earn an 84-83 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's basketball victory over host Felician College on Saturday afternoon at Job Gymnasium.

Concordia junior Peter Aguilar (Bronx, N.Y./Mount St. Michael Academy) knocked down the game-winning shot, with the ball swishing through the net just as the final horn sounded. Aguilar led all players on the day with 26 points and seven steals.

Felician (1-13, 1-7 CACC) recovered from an 11-point halftime deficit to take a 75-67 lead with four minutes, seven seconds left in regulation time. The Clippers answered with a 9-1 spurt, including five points by Jamie Holder (Milford, N.H./Notre Dame Prep), to tie the game, 76-76.

With the teams again knotted at 78-78, Golden Falcon junior Lamine Cooper (Willingboro, N.J./Medford Tech) was fouled in the backcourt with the Clippers over the limit. He knocked down two free throws at the 0:58 mark. Felician extended to an 82-78 edge when Damiun Moore (Manchester, N.J./Manchester Township) canned a pair from the charity stripe at 0:36, but after another defensive stop, the hosts missed a chance to extend the lead by missing two shots at the line.

On Concordia's next possession, Aguliar kicked the ball out to sophomore Jalen Heath (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Central) for a three-pointer from the left corner with fewer than nine seconds to play. The Clippers fouled Cooper, who converted only his second attempt. Andrew Peacock (Washington, D.C./Paul VI [Va.]) then quickly worked the ball upcourt, and found Aguilar free at the top of the arc for the game-winner.

Jeyvi Miavivululu (Paterson, N.J./Paterson Catholic) led Felician with 19 points and 14 rebounds. Cooper finished with career highs of 17 points and seven assists to go along with six boards, and senior center Will Thompson (Teaneck, N.J./Teaneck) matched his collegiate best with 11 rebounds. Felician senior forward J.R. Pringley (Elizabeth, N.J./Linden) amased 14 points and eight rebounds as the Golden Falcons wasted a 57-30 advantage on the glass.

Holder shot 8 for 12 from the floor and finished with 19 points. Concordia shot 61 percent in the first half and 32 percent in the second, and were 1 for 9 from three-point range in the second period before making the final two.

Felician concluded a four-game homestand. It is next in action on Tuesday night at Nyack College
