Miavivululu Powers Felician Men's Basketball To 64-54 Win Over Dominican

Box Score

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Powered by 18 points and 12 rebounds from senior center Jeyvi Miavivululu (Paterson, N.J./Paterson Catholic), the Felician University men's basketball team picked up a 64-54 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over visiting Dominican (N.Y.) College on Tuesday night at Job Gymasium. Felician (2-1, 1-0 CACC) was playing its first CACC contest of the season.

The Golden Falcons, who never trailed, held Dominican to 26-percent shooting from the floor in the opening period to open up a 29-17 halftime advantage. Felician then took its largest lead of the game when junior forward Kennedy Chukwuocha (Willingboro, N.J./Medford Tech) converted a lay-up on his team's first possession of the second half.

The Chargers (1-5, 1-1) embarked on an 11-0 run over the next five-plus minutes of game time, including five points from freshman forward Sayon Charles (Staten Island, N.Y./Xaverian), to pull to within 31-28 with 14 minutes, 30 seconds, remaining in regulation time. A transition lay-up by Jamal Reid (Newark, N.J./East Side) and a Chukwuocha jumper pushed the bulge to seven points, but with 8:39 to play, Dominican chopped its deficit to 41-39 on a steal and lay-in by E.J. Smith (Nyack, N.Y./Nyack).

On Felician's next possession, junior guard Tim Massado (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) buried a three-point field goal, and the shot jump-started a 9-0 Golden Falcon run. A putback by Quasan Lindsay (Newark, N.J./Shabazz) made the score 50-39 at the 6:16 mark, and the Chargers could only get as close as a five-point deficit the rest of the way.

Miavivululu was the only player on either side to score in double figures. Massado totaled eight points, six assists, and two steals, and the Golden Falcons also received eight points apiece from Chukwuocha, Reid and Marko Kozul (Astoria, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy). Charles, Smith, and Sean O'Reilly (Colts Neck, N.J./Colts Neck) netted nine points each for Dominican.

Felician out-shot the Chargers, 48-33 percent, for the game.
