Box Score RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The Felician University men's basketball team broke out for a season-high offensive output in its 82-67 non-conference victory over visiting New York Institute of Technology on Monday night at Job Gymnasium.
Felician (3-2) put four scorers in double figures, led by a season-high 21 points from senior center Jeyvi Miavivululu (Paterson, N.J./Paterson Catholic). Golden Falcon junior guard Jamal Reid (Newark, N.J./East Side) netted 15 points, including 13 after halftime, and added a career-high matching nine rebounds and six assists.
Felician outscored the Bears, 20-4, over the final 7 ½ minutes of the opening period to take a 39-20 lead into the halftime intermission. With 10:06 left in regulation time, the Golden Falcons assumed their largest advantage, 59-34, following Kennedy Chukwuocha's (Willingboro, N.J./Medford Tech) three-point play.
The hosts still led by 21 with 6:05 to play, but NYIT (1-5) was able to force turnovers and get to the foul line, and with fewer than two minutes off of the game clock, crafted a 12-2 run to pull within 70-59. Felician answered with a 8-2 spurt of its own, capped by consecutive run-out lay-ups from Reid, to restore an 18-point advantage at the 2:22 mark and secure the victory.
Felician sophomore Marko Kozul (Astoria, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) turned in 12 points and six rebounds in 18 bench minutes, and teammate Tim Massado (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) finished with 11 points. The Golden Falcons racked up a 52-37 rebounding advantage, led by Reid and eight boards from sophomore Vadji Dosso (Paris France/St. Vincent de Paul). Felician also held the Bears to 33-percent shooting from the floor, including 22 percent in the first half.
Senior guard Khalif Chaplin (Hempstead, N.Y./St. Mary's) led NYIT with 19 points and eight rebounds. The Bears received 12 points and six caroms from freshman forward Jeffrey Hayden (New York, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes).
Felician improved to 3-0 at home, its best such start since beginning 10-0 in Rutherford in 2009-10. The Golden Falcons host Post University on Wednesday in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference tilt at 8 p.m.
