Frantic Finish Leaves Golden Falcons Two Points Shy Of Eagles

Box Score

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The Felician University men's basketball team nearly erased a seven-point deficit in the final 31 seconds of its 71-69 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss to visiting Post University on Wednesday night at Job Gymnasium. Victory was not assured for the Eagles until a Felician heave from just inside mid-court bounced off the back of the rim as time expired.

Post sophomore Tyler Desrosiers (Agawam, Mass./Agawam) shot 7 of 10 from the floor, including 4 for 6 from three-point range, and finished with 22 points. The Eagles also received 20 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists from senior Shay Agboola (Atlanta, Ga./Dean College). Agboola was 4 of 7 from distance as Post shot 11 for 26 (42 percent) from long range.

Felician (3-3, 1-1 CACC) got a season-high 22 points from senior center Jeyvi Miavivululu (Paterson, N.J./Paterson Catholic) (9-14 FG). Golden Falcon junior guard Jamal Reid (Newark, N.J./East Side) flirted with a triple-double before totaling 15 points, eight rebounds, and a career-high 12 assists.

Miavivululu canned a three to tie the game for the ninth and final time, 54-54, with five minutes, 39 seconds, left in regulation time. But the Golden Falcon offense went cold, coming up scoreless for the next 3 ½ minutes of game time, allowing Post to build a six-point lead. When Agboola split a pair of free throws at the 0:31 mark, the Eagles owned their largest edge, 68-61.

The Golden Falcons scored on a dunk by Kennedy Chukwuocha (Willingboro, N.J./Medford Tech), and quickly fouled on purpose. Desrosiers made 1 of 2 free throws to restore a six-point advantage at 0:24. But the drama intensified when Felician received a three-pointer from Tim Massado (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth), called its last timeout, then forced a five-second in-bound violation with just over 16 ticks to play.

Massado caught the ensuing in-bound pass and misfired on a tying three-point attempt, and Chukwuocha was called for a loose-ball foul while attempting to grab the offensive rebound. Post's Malcolm Amos (Brookport, Ill./Kaskaskia College) seemed to put the game away by making his first foul-shot attempt, but when he missed his second, Reid rushed the ball upcourt and swished a running, off-balance three to make the score 70-69 with 4.5 seconds on the clock.

Felician fouled Desrosiers at 0:02.6, and he made only his second attempt. But the best shot the Golden Falcons could obtain was a heave by Massado at the buzzer which missed slightly long. Massado netted nine points on the night.

The Eagles put four scorers in double figures. David Seymour (Amityville, N.Y./Dean College) amassed 11 points and 10 rebounds, and Tamas Okros (Bristol, England/South Gloucestershire and Stroud) scored 10 points.

Felician outscored the Eagles, 10-1, over the last five minutes of the first half to bring a 30-22 lead into the locker room. Post drained three-pointers on four of its first five possessions of period two to move ahead, 34-32. Felician scored the game's next eight points to move back on top by six, but the Eagles tied the game at 41-41 with 13:47 to play, setting up the exciting finish.
