Box Score LAKEWOOD, N.J. – The Felician University men's basketball team held Georgian Court University scoreless for a nearly four-minute period as regulation time wound down to preserve its 63-55 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over the host Lions on Tuesday night at the GCU Wellness Center.
Junior guard Tim Massado (Wilmington, Del.) (6-8 FG, 5-7 3FG) scored 17 points off the Felician bench to lead all players on the night. Senior center Jeyvi Miavivululu (Paterson, N.J.) added 14 points and eight rebounds for the Golden Falcons (5-10, 3-6 CACC), who snapped a five-game losing streak and won for the first time in six tries in non-neutral road games this season.
Felician used a 9-0 run, capped by a steal and lay-up by junior C.J. Mwila (Livonia, Mich.), to take its largest lead of the game, 47-35, with 11 minutes, 39 second remaining in regulation time. But Georgian Court (2-14, 1-8) nearly returned the favor. The Lions scoring the next eight points, a spurt punctuated by a Keith Hughes (Woodbridge, N.J.) dunk, to pull to within 47-43 with 8:22 to play.
Massado and Luka Zgonjanin (Belgrade, Serbia) traded three-point field goals, and GCU would eventually get as close as 54-52 on a three by Hamilton Capellan (Perth Amboy, N.J.) at 4:22. But in the next 3:46 of clock time the hosts would miss five field goal attempts and four free throws and commit two turnovers. A Miavivululu jumper at 2:18 and a trey by Jamal Reid (Newark, N.J.) with 1:24 to play gave the Golden Falcons enough of a cushion to hold off the Lions for the win.
Reid finished with 10 points and Mwila had eight points and six assists for the Golden Falcons. Felician junior forward Kennedy Chukwuocha (Willingboro, N.J.) scored eight points and grabbed seven rebounds. Sophomore guard Michael Pierre (Melrose, N.Y.) led Georgian Court with 15 points, and Hughes tallied a game-high 14 rebounds. Felician held the Lions to 34-percent shooting from the floor and committed only six turnovers.
Massado scored 14 first-half points as Felician jumped out to a 26-17 after 14 minutes of action. The visitors settled for a 32-29 halftime advantage.
