Men's Basketball Suffers Loss At Concordia Despite Miavivululu's 23

Box Score

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Despite 23 points from senior center Jeyvi Miavivululu (Paterson, N.J.), Felician University was defeated by host Concordia (N.Y.) College, 75-68, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's basketball action on Tuesday night at the Meyer Athletic Center.

Miavivululu, who made 11 of 19 field-goal attempts, was the game's top scorer. Felician (6-13, 3-9 CACC) also received 17 points in 22 bench minutes from sophomore forward Marko Kozul (Astoria, N.Y.). Concordia placed all five of its starters in double figures in scoring, led by 17 points from senior forward Peter Aguilar (Bronx, N.Y.).

The Clippers (9-11, 6-5), who have won four of their last five games, took control in the middle stages of the second period Felician had scored six points in a span of 48 seconds to erase a 47-41 deficit and tie the game, for fourth and final time, with 11 minutes, 12 seconds, left in regulation. But a three-point field goal by Andrew Peacock (Washington, D.C.) gave the hosts the lead for good, and touched off an 8-0 Concordia run. The Clippers extended to a 62-53 edge on a Aguilar jumper with 4:48 to play.

Miavivululu kept the Golden Falcons in contention, tallying his team's next 13 points. He canned a three-pointer to pull Felician to within 66-62 at the 1:22 mark, then, after the Clippers split a pair of free throws, was fouled while converting a lay-up to make the score 67-64. Miavivululu missed the ensuing free throw, however, and Concordia's 6 for 8 performance at the foul line in the final minute was enough to secure the victory.

Felician held the Clippers to 38-percent shooting from the floor, and had eight more field goals than Concordia. But the Golden Falcons were outscored, 24-4, at the foul line for the night.

Peacock finished with 16 points. The Clippers received double-doubles from junior Jalen Heath (Joliet, Ill.) (12 points, 16 rebounds) and freshman Stephen Milhaven (Port Washington, N.Y.) (13 points, 13 rebounds). Junior forward Kennedy Chukwuocha (Willingboro, N.J.) scored 13 points for Felician.

The Golden Falcons overcame an early 9-0 deficit to lead, 22-18, after 12 minutes of action. Felician carried that same margin, 35-31, into halftime. The game featured 10 lead changes.
