Men's Basketball Defeated By Daemen Despite Kozul's 26

ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – Despite a career-high 26 points from sophomore forward Marko Kozul (Astoria, N.Y.), the Felician University men's basketball team was defeated by Daemen College, 94-71, in non-conference action during Day 2 of the 10th Annual James Clancy Memorial Tournament, hosted by Dominican (N.Y.) College on Sunday afternoon at the Hennessy Center.

The Golden Falcons and Wildcats were meeting for the first time.

In 23 minutes off the Felician bench, Kozul made 9 of 13 field-goal attempts, including 4 of 6 from three-point range, and shot 4 for 5 at the foul line. He added four rebounds. His 26 points are the highest individual total by a Felician player this season.

Sophomore guard Nick Petrucelli (Hicksville, N.Y.) tallied 20 points and nine rebounds and senior swingman Torrence Dyck (Rochester, N.Y.) added 17 points to pace Daemen (5-5). Petrucelli made 5 of 6 three-point attempts, leading the Wildcats to a 14-for-27 performance from beyond the arc.

Daemen used six consecutive points by Dyck to open a 28-15 lead after 12 minutes of play. The Wildcats led by as many as 14 points in the opening period, and netted the final five points of the half to take a 45-32 halftime advantage. Daemen expanded to a 20-point bulge on a three by Arif Mehmetaj (Jamaica, N.Y.) with 15:34 to play.

The Golden Falcons pulled to within 75-66 on a basket and free throw by Kennedy Chukwuocha (Willingboro, N.J.) at the 6:03 mark, but the Wildcats fashioned a 10-0 run over the next four minutes to secure the victory. The final 23-point margin was Daemen's largest of the day.

Daemen shot 52 percent from the field for the game, including 57 percent in the first half. The Wildcats also amassed a 42-27 rebounding advantage. Jesse Lalka (Tonawanda, N.Y.) had 13 points and six rebounds in 17 bench minutes.

Chukwuocha (7-10 FG) finished with 16 points for Felician (4-8), which lost for the second times in as many days in the tournament. The Golden Falcons have dropped six of their last seven contests heading into Wednesday's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference home tilt against Goldey-Beacom College.
