Box Score RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Bloomfield College springboarded from a tight Set 1 triumph to earn a 3-0 (25-23, 25-11, 25-17) Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's volleyball victory over host Felician University on Wednesday night at Job Gymnasium.
Senior outside hitter Valerie Bermudez (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Academica Bautista de Puerto Nuevo) hit .529 for the night and led Bloomfield (13-10, 10-2 CACC) with 10 kills, 14 digs and four service aces. The win allowed the Bears to sweep their two-match season series from Felician.
Sophomore outside hitter Paulina Calero (El Centro, Calif./Southwest) led Felician (0-21, 0-12) with eight kills.
Bloomfield led throughout the first set, taking its largest edge at 12-7, and then again at 18-13. But the Golden Falcons stayed within striking distance, pulling to within one point on two occasions before using a Lanyse Castro (Elizabeth, N.J./Elizabeth) kill to even things up at 23-23. However a Felician error and a kill by Kali Viles (McKinney, Texas/McKinney North) gave the set to the visitors.
The second set was also evenly played early on. But, ahead, 8-7, the Bears captured 13 of the next 15 rallies, including nine in a row on the serve of freshman Danielle Quintanar (El Paso, Texas/Canutillo).
Bloomfield carried the momentum into Set 3, opening up advantages of 8-1 and 17-3. The Golden Falcons came as close as 23-16 before eventually succumbing.
The Bears hit .330 and totaled nine aces for the night. Nayade Paulino (Paterson, N.J./PCTI) hit .526 with 10 kills and four blocks.
Felician received six kills each from Carmen Shaw (Gardnerville, Nev./Douglas) and Kaleysa Vodrazka (Bayonne, N.J./Bayonne). Freshman Anna Piedel (Garfield, N.J./Garfield) put down a season-high four kills and added four digs.
