Box Score WATERBURY, Conn. – Freshman guard Zamir Wright (Newark, N.J.) swished a heave from beyond the mid-court stripe as the final buzzer sounded, lifting Felician University to a 68-65 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's basketball victory over host Post University on Wednesday night at the Drubner Center.
Felician (5-3, 2-1 CACC) has won five consecutive games for the first time since a six-game streak in January and February of 2011.
The Golden Falcons trailed, 35-21, at halftime, and by 20 points following a Matt Mareno (San Francisco, Calif.) lay-up with 12 minutes, three seconds, to play in regulation time. But the visitors came all the way back and moved ahead, 62-61, on a three-point field goal by junior Gjaimeir Stanford (Wilmington, Del.) with 2:29 remaining. Nassir Williams (Harlem, N.Y.) quickly put Post back on top, and the 63-62 score held until 0:16 showed on the game clock, when Wright found fellow rookie William Phelps (Linden, N.J.) for a three.
The Eagles knotted the score at 65-65 on a jumper from the left baseline by junior Joseph Lockwood (London, England). With 0:02.2 showing, overtime seemed imminent. But Bryant Webb (Parlin, N.J.) inbounded to Wright on the left side. Wright took one dribble and launched an uncontested shot from about 55 feet away which passed through the net to give the Golden Falcons the victory.
Felician sophomore forward Terrell Spaulding (Paterson, N.J.) (eight rebounds) matched Stanford for game high honors with 19 points. Wright finished with nine points and four assists. The Golden Falcons shot 39 percent from the floor, including just 30 percent in the first half.
Post (2-6, 1-2) was paced by 18 points and six rebounds from junior guard Tyler Desrosiers (Agawam, Mass.). Williams (8-12 FG) added 17 points.
Felician was ahead, 14-13, before the Eagles completed the first half with a 22-7 run over the final 10 minutes. The Golden Falcons still trailed by 10 with 6:36 remaining in the contest before making their final push.
Felician begins a four-game homestand by entertaining Bloomfield College on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. in Rutherford, N.J.
