Dominican Men's Basketball Tops Felician In Rutherford

Box Score

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician University committed an uncharacteristic 21 turnovers in its 77-57 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's basketball loss to visiting Dominican (N.Y.) College on Tuesday night at Job Gymnasium.

Dominican (7-3, 3-1 CACC) placed five scorers in double figures, led by 12 points in 17 minutes off the bench from sophomore guard E.J. Smith (Nyack, N.Y./Nyack). Felician junior guard Gjaimeir Stanford (Wilmington, Del./Howard) led all players with 13 points.

The Golden Falcons, who produced a season-low point total, struggled to get their offense on track. Felician shot 32 percent from the field, including 23 percent in the second half, and had 10 shots blocked in the game. The hosts were averaging 14.1 turnovers per game entering Tuesday before seeing their second-highest total for miscues occur.

The Chargers extended a one-point lead with nine minutes, 37 seconds remaining in the opening period to 37-26 on a Smith three-point field goal with 5:04 left in the half. Dominican settled for a 41-33 halftime edge, with Smith tallying all 12 of his points before intermission.

A three-pointer by Stanford brought Felician to within 48-42 with 14:53 to play in regulation time. But that was the closest the Golden Falcons would come to their opposition for the rest of the night. A three by Daraja Rodwell (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) capped a 12-2 run for Dominican which pushed the lead to 16, and another Rodwell trifecta with 7:51 to play made it 65-46. The Chargers were up by as many as 22 points in the closing minutes.

Bryant Webb (Parlin, N.J./Sayreville War Memorial) scored 11 points with six rebounds for Felician (5-5, 2-3). Freshman Yvens Monfleury (East Orange, N.J./American History) turned in seven points, eight rebounds and three steals in 17 minutes. The Chargers received 11 points, eight rebounds and four assists from freshman guard Daniel Grant (Middletown, N.Y./Middletown).

Felician welcomes Nyack College to Rutherford on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
