Men's Basketball Gets Past Nyack Behind Miavivululu's 29

Box Score
NYACK, N.Y. – Senior center Jeyvi Miavivululu (Paterson, N.J.) scored a career-high 29 points and added nine rebounds and seven blocked shots to lead Felician University to a 66-61 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's basketball victory over host Nyack College on Tuesday night at Bowman Gymnasium. Felician (9-14, 6-10 CACC) gained a split of its two-game season series with the Warriors, and stayed alive in the CACC North Division playoff race.

In 27 minutes, Miavivululu shot 10-for-15 from the floor, including 2-of-3 from three-point range, and made 7 of his 10 free throw attempts. His seven blocks were one shy of the Felician record shared by Brian Henkel (1/25/97) and Michael Pierrot (2/5/07). Golden Falcon sophomore Marko Kozul (Astoria, N.Y.) posted 13 points and eight rebounds.

Felician junior C.J. Mwila (Livonia, Mich.) canned a three-pointer on his team's final possession of a tightly-contested opening period to hand the visitors a 26-22 halftime lead. The Golden Falcons then needed only three minutes to begin the second-half with a 9-0 run, capped by three-pointers from Kozul and Miavivululu, to move ahead by 13. Felician took its largest lead, 39-24, with 16:11 left in regulation time.

The Warriors (9-13, 6-9) chopped their deficit to four with 11:05 to play, and found themselves down by the same margin, 54-50, at the 3:43 mark, but Miavivululu converted on a putback on Felician's next possession. Nyack did not score again until a Robert Tyler (Beltsville, Md.) bucket when 1:22 remained, making the score 58-52. The Golden Falcons' 6 for 8 performance at the foul line down the stretch was enough to secure the victory.

Felician held the Warriors to 31-percent shooting from the floor. Junior guard Jaron Smith (Bayonne, N.J.) led Nyack with 18 points, and sophomore guard Imran Ritchie netted 13 points with seven rebounds. Freshman Shawn Witherspoon (Philadelphia, Pa.) tallied eight points and 11 rebounds for the Warriors.

The Golden Falcons received eight points apiece from Jamal Reid (Newark, N.J.) and Kennedy Chukwuocha (Willingboro, N.J.).

Felician remained two games behind the final playoff spot from the CACC North Division, with three to play. Just 2 ½ games separate second from seventh place in the division; four teams will quality for the conference tournament.
