Men's Basketball Loses To Concordia, Fails To Gain In Playoff Race

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Despite 26 points and 13 rebounds from sophomore forward Terrell Spaulding (Paterson, N.J./Eastside), the Felician University men's basketball team was defeated by visiting Concordia (N.Y.) College, 80-67, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action on Tuesday night at Job Gymnasium.

The loss dropped Felician into sixth place in the CACC North Division. The Golden Falcons, who have three games remaining, fell one-half game behind Concordia, and trail fourth-place Post University by two games for the division's final playoff berth.

Spaulding's effort was neutralized by a 28-point, 12-rebound performance from Concordia senior guard Jalen Heath (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Central).

Felician led, 34-33, at halftime, and the lead changed hands three times in the early stages of the second period. A dunk by Golden Falcon senior Kennedy Chukwuocha (Willingboro, N.J./Medford Tech) tied the game for the fourth and final time at 44-44 with 13 minutes, 40 seconds, left in regulation.

On the Clippers' next possession, senior Jamie Holder (Milford, N.H./Notre Dame Prep) canned a three-point field goal to give his team the lead for good. The shot touched off a 15-2 run for the visitors over the next 4 ½ minutes of game time. Concordia assumed its largest advantage, 70-54, following two Holder free throws with 5:55 to play, and Felician, which shot just 39 percent from the floor, was never able to close the gap back into single digits.

Sophomore Cedrick McFadden (Washington, D.C./Saint Andrews Episcopal) totaled 17 points and eight assists for Concordia, and junior Justyn Gardner (Queens, N.Y./Construction) added 10 points and six rebounds in 16 bench minutes. Chukwuocha finished with

Concordia scored the first seven points of the game, but Felician came back to lead 16-15. The teams stayed within two possessions of each other for the balance of the first half, with the Golden Falcons twice leading by as many as four.

Felician plays its final home game of the season on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. against Holy Family University.
