Box Score ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – Despite receiving "double-doubles" from juniors Terrell Spaulding (Paterson, N.J.) and Rahsaan Williams (Brooklyn, N.Y.), the Felician University men's basketball team suffered an 82-72 loss to host Dominican (N.Y.) College in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action on Thursday night on the Hennessy Center's Coach Baxter Court.
Dominican gained a split of its annual two-game regular-season series with Felician. The Chargers (18-7, 12-4 CACC) are ranked No. 7 in the most recent NCAA Division II Committee East Region poll.
The Golden Falcons (10-14, 7-9) saw their lead for the final playoff spot from the CACC North Division cut to one game over Post University and 1 ½ games over Nyack College, both of whom were idle on Thursday. Felician and the Eagles have three games left to play; the Warriors' schedule contains only two remaining games.
Spaulding scored a game-high 25 points and added 10 rebounds for his seventh double-double of the season and the 15th of his career. Williams posted 12 points and led all players with 13 boards. He moved into the CACC lead with his 11th double-double of 2017-18.
Dominican sophomore guard Daraja Rodwell (Baldwin, N.Y.) turned in 22 points, six rebounds and five assists.
Felician jumped out to a 14-4 edge after 5 ½ minutes following a three-point field goal by sophomore Zamir Wright (Newark, N.J.). The Chargers cut the deficit to 26-24 with 6:28 left in the opening period, but the Golden Falcons canned three-pointers on three consecutive possessions, the first two by Spaulding and the last from Gjaimeir Stanford (Wilmington, Del.), to take their largest lead of the night, 40-27, with 2:18 until the break.
The hosts, however, netted the last eight points of the half, including six by Rodwell, to trail just 40-35 at intermission. With 17:42 left in regulation, Dominican took the lead, 43-42, on a three-point play from Ian Gardener (Norwalk, Conn.). Felician briefly went back on top, only to see the Chargers embark on a 19-4 run for a 64-50 lead with 10:12 to play.
For a 12-minute stretch spanning halftime, Dominican outscored the Golden Falcons, 37-10.
Felician never again cut its deficit under double digits. The Chargers' biggest bulge came at 81-62 following a Jonathan Garcia (Springfield, Mass.) dunk at 4:49. The Golden Falcons tallied the night's last eight points for the final margin.
Wright picked up 13 points and Stanford 13 for Felician. Gardener scored 17 points and Daniel Grant (Middletown, N.Y.) added 16 for Dominican. The Golden Falcons committed 19 turnovers, which the Chargers converted into 24 points.
