Box Score WATERBURY, Conn. – Junior swingman Terrell Spaulding (Paterson, N.J.) scored 31 points as Felician University overcame a 10-point second-half deficit to earn a 92-78 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's basketball victory over host Post University on Wednesday night at the Drubner Center. The result broke a tie between the schools for fourth place in the CACC North Division.
With five games remaining, Felician (10-12, 7-7 CACC) owns a one-game lead over the Eagles for the North Division's final playoff spot. By defeating Post for the second time this season, the Golden Falcons also earned tiebreaker privileges over the Eagles (7-16, 6-8).
With Wednesday's win, Felician matched its victory total for last season. The last time the Golden Falcons won more than 10 games was their 12-15 season of 2012-13.
Spaulding made 11 of 18 field-goal attempts, shooting 6 for 7 from three-point range. He added six rebounds and three assists in 38 minutes. Felician senior guard Gjaimeir Stanford (Wilmington, Del.) added 20 points (13 after halftime) and six rebounds. Freshman Darrick Boyd (Springfield, Mass.) netted 19 points to top Post.
Felician shot 53 percent from the floor both overall (38 for 72) and from distance (9 of 17), and matched its season low by committing five turnovers. In the second period, the Golden Falcons were 21 of 33 (64 percent) from the field and 6 of 8 beyond the three-point arc with no miscues.
Each team owned a six-point lead in the game's first seven minutes. The final 11 ½ minutes of the opening half were tightly contested, with the teams rarely separated by more than one possession. A buzzer-beating lay-up by Stanford allowed Felician to enter the locker room trailing, 44-41.
Boyd canned three three-pointers in the first four minutes of the second half, the last of which left the hosts on top, 58-48. With 12:30 to play, following a basket and foul shot by Boyd, the Eagles still led by 10.
Spaulding nailed a three on Felician's next possession, and fewer than two minutes later, the visitors had tied the game, 72-72. At the 9:34 mark, the Golden Falcons went ahead to stay on a Spaulding lay-up, and another Spaulding three made it 77-72 with 8:28 to play and capped a 17-2, four-minute Felician uprising.
Felican held the Eagles to six points the rest of the night. Yet another trifecta from Spaulding put the Golden Falcons up by 10 at the 5:12 mark. Both offenses cooled off, with Felician outscoring the Eagles just 6-2 thereafter for the final margin.
Felician sophomore Zamir Wright (Newark, N.J.) turned in 17 points, and both sides received a double-double from their prominent post player. Golden Falcon junior Rahsaan Williams (Brooklyn, N.Y.) totaled 16 points and 13 rebounds, while Eagle senior Joseph Lockwood (London, England) scored 17 points with 12 boards.
Felician follows an idle weekend with a trip to Bronxville, N.Y., on Feb. 13 to face Concordia (N.Y.) College.
