Box Score BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Sophomore guard Bionca Chambers (Bronx, N.Y.) scored nine of her team-high 19 points in the fourth quarter to lead Felician University to a 76-69 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference women's basketball victory over host Concordia (N.Y.) College on Tuesday afternoon at the Meyer Athletic Center.
For the third consecutive game, Felician (3-9, 3-2 CACC) produced a season-high in points. Tuesday's contest featured 10 lead changes, but the Golden Falcons never trailed in the fourth quarter.
Chambers led four Felician double-figure scorers. She also logged nine rebounds, five assists, three steals and two blocked shots in her 36 minutes of action. Golden Falcon senior forward Kameron Stone (Bronx, N.Y.) recorded 14 points, eight rebounds and four blocks.
Felician survived a high offensive output from the Clipper backcourt combination of sophomore Cameron Corbett (Staten Island, N.Y.) and freshman Sara Hopkins (Mountain Top, Pa.). Corbett (6-9 FG, 13-14 FT) totaled 25 points, four assists and four steals, while Hopkins, helped by an 8 for 8 foul-line performance, netted 21 points. Both players were on the floor for the entire 40 minutes.
The sides were tied, 24-24, after one period. A successful jump shot by Stone was the only scoring in the last four minutes of the second quarter, allowing Felician to enter intermission trailing only 40-39.
Kristin Smith (Hainesport, N.J.) split a pair of free throws on the Golden Falcons' initial second-half possession to knot the score. The visiting offense went cold, but Concordia could only build a 48-41 edge over the next six minutes. A Stone layup and free throw with 3:49 left finally gave Felician a third-period field goal, and moments later, consecutive baskets by Briana Boyd (Lumberton, N.J.) drew the Golden Falcons back even at 48-48.
The third period ended in 53-53 tie, the 13th deadlock of the game. But Felician took control by scoring the first six points of the fourth quarter. Corbett made all three of a three-shot foul, but the visitors answered with consecutive lay-ups by Smith to lead by seven with 6:28 to play.
After two Hopkins free throws at the 3:10 mark, the Golden Falcons clung to a 65-61 edge. The teams traded empty possessions, and after an offensive rebound by Felician, the game clock wound under two minutes with the same score. After baskets by Stone and Chambers, the latter at 1:24, Felician could finally rest easily.
Smith finished with 13 points and nine rebounds and Taliyah Brisco (Cambria Heights, N.Y.) added 12 points for Felician, which committed a season-low 12 turnovers. The Golden Falcons offset a 23-11 deficit at the foul line with a 45-35 rebounding edge, including 20-8 on the offensive glass.
Felician returns to the road to face the nationally-ranked University of the Sciences on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Philadelphia.
