Greyhounds Defeat Felician In Neutral-Site Men's Lacrosse Contest

Box Score

WATERBURY, Conn. – Assumption College racked up 24 goals in the middle two quarters en route to a 34-3 non-conference men's lacrosse victory over Felician University on Saturday afternoon at LaMoy Field on the campus of Post University.

Felician (0-2) went down to its second consecutive neutral-site defeat to begin the 2019 season.

Sophomore midfielder James D'Albora (Staten Island, N.Y.) recorded a goal and an assist for the Golden Falcons. D'Albora got off a team-high seven shots. Teammates Ausar Wright (Pemberton, N.J.) and Jefferson Jacob (Staten Island, N.Y.) also scored. Freshman José McLean-Byrd (Bronx, N.Y.) won eight face-offs and led Felician with five ground balls.

For Assumption, senior attack Travis Reid (Raynham, Mass.) netted 13 goals – on 15 shots – and handed out nine assists. His 13 goals and 22 points established single-game NCAA Division II national records. Greyhound senior Dan Farrell turned in seven goals and four assists.

Reid entered the day needing five points to break the Assumption all-time record of 152. He took care of that task in the first period. His assist on a Spencer Mariocchini (Somers, Mass.) tally with 3:07 left put the Greyhounds ahead, 7-1. D'Albora's unassisted tally in the final minute cut Felician's deficit to five at period's end.

But by the middle of the second quarter, Assumption had already taken full control. Reid scored 44 seconds into the period, and Farrell followed with the game's next four goals. By the time Jacob found the back of the cage with 3:47 to play until halftime, the Golden Falcons trailed 14-3. Felician was held off the scoreboard the rest of the way.

The Greyhounds (1-1) were up, 19-3, at halftime, then deposited 12 third-period scores. Freshman Zach DeBay (Pelham, N.H.) picked up all three Assumption goals in the fourth for the final margin

Goalkeepers Pat Hemmer (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Billy Addeo (North Arlington, N.J.) split the game for Felician. Hemmer was credited with 11 first-half saves, while Addeo stopped nine shots in the second half. The duo combined to face 74 shots.

Assumption's 34 goals were also a Division II record. Three teams had scored 33, most recently Colorado Mesa University last year.

Felician has a week off before its home opener on Mar. 2 at 8 p.m. against Molloy College at the Lyndhurst (N.J.) Recreation Complex.
