Box Score RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Dominican (N.Y.) College used a late 19-6 run to pull away for an eventual 85-78 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's basketball victory over host Felician University on Wednesday night at Job Gymnasium.
Each side placed four scorers in double figures. Sophomore forward Jay'von Jackson (Plainfield, N.J./St. Mary-Elizabeth) led Felician (6-13, 4-7 CACC) with 16 points. Golden Falcon senior swingman Rachid Shimou (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway) recorded 13 points and five rebounds.
Dominican (15-5, 8-3) is tied for first place in the CACC North Division and is ranked No. 7 in the most recent NCAA Division II East Region media poll. The Golden Falcons and Chargers split their two-game regular-season series for 2019-20, with each winning on the other's home floor.
Dominican freshman forward Tedrick Wilcox (Pawtucket, R.I./Tolman) topped all players with 29 points. Wilcox was 12 for 15 from the floor, including 5 of 8 from three-point range. He led a Charger squad which shot 53 percent from the floor, as compared to a 45-percent rate for the Golden Falcons.
The visitors also compiled a 40-30 rebounding edge. Senior center Jason Copman (Cumberland, Md./Allegany) led the way, grabbing 21 boards to go along with six points, three assists, two blocks and two steals.
The game featured 14 lead changes. Dominican was in front, 22-12, after 8 ½ minutes of play and carried a 43-35 bulge into the halftime break. But Shimou canned a pair of three-pointers to start period two. Following a second Charger turnover in the half, a trey by Jackson made it a 9-0 run and gave the hosts a one-point lead with 18:05 left in regulation time.
Over the next 11 minutes, the lead changed hands nine times. Dominican was up by as many as five points during that stretch, but a Jackson layup at the 7:11 mark restored the advantage for the Golden Falcons, 67-66.
After Daraja Rodwell (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) was on the mark from distance on Dominican's next possession, his team never trailed again, as the shot touched off the game's decisive spurt. Tavon Ginyard's (Brentwood, N.Y./Brentwood) lob pass with 1:30 to go found Wilcox for a punctuating dunk, putting the Chargers ahead, 85-73.
Sophomore Dee-End McRae (Newark, N.J./Newark Central) (seven rebounds) and freshman Josiah Basket (Oak Ridge, N.J./West Milford) netted 10 points each for Felician. Sophomore Jaylen Colon (Paterson, N.J./John F. Kennedy) had eight points and five assists. The Golden Falcons fell to 1-7 versus regionally-ranked opponents this season, based on the D2SIDA Media Poll at the time of the game.
Ginyard totaled 19 points off the Dominican bench, including 11 in the second half.
Felician is idle until Feb. 4, when it plays Nyack College at 7:30 p.m. in Nyack, N.Y. The Golden Falcons are two games behind the CACC North's final playoff position with eight league games remaining.
