Box Score BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Felician University sophomore frontcourtman Dee-End McRae (Newark, N.J.) led all players with 19 points as the Golden Falcons defeated host Concordia (N.Y.) College, 76-64, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon at the Meyer Athletic Center. Felician completed a sweep of its two-game CACC season series against the Clippers.
The victory combined with other conference results from Saturday put the Golden Falcons (11-14, 9-8) in control of their CACC playoff fate. Wins in its final two games, at home against Caldwell University on Wednesday and at Georgian Court University on Feb. 29, would guarantee Felician a spot in the following week's CACC championship tournament. The Golden Falcons are also still mathematically alive for the CACC North Division's No. 3 seed.
McRae added six rebounds in 22 minutes of action. He was joined in double figures in scoring by teammates Jay'von Jackson (Plainfield, N.J.) (13) and Jeff Lewis (Sicklerville, N.J.) (12, six rebounds). Sophomore forward Devon Sims (Centreville, Va.) led Concordia with 17 points off the bench.
Ahead, 13-10, after seven minutes, the Golden Falcons tallied eight consecutive points to stretch their lead to 11. The visitors' advantage grew as large as 35-17 following a McRae putback with 6:35 left in the opening period. After a late layup and free throw by Concordia senior Jesse Breeding (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.), Felician settled for a 40-27 halftime edge.
Boosted by six consecutive Lewis points, Felician began period two with a 13-2 run for its largest lead of the day, 53-29, at the 16:55 mark. The Golden Falcons were still ahead by 22 after a successful Marlon Reid (Englewood, N.J.) jump shot with 12:53 to play, but the hosts began to chip away. With the game clock showing 6:05, a Breeding free throw put the finishing touches on a 16-3 Clipper run which pulled his team within 61-52.
A three-point field goal by Rachid Shimou (Piscataway, N.J.) temporarily quieted the home crowd, but consecutive buckets from Jared Young (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) brought Concordia to an eight-point spread at 4:37. Felician made defensive stops on the Clippers' next four trips, however, long enough for Jackson to bury back-to-back threes and make the score 72-56 at the 2:59 mark. The Golden Falcons nursed the game to victory from there.
Shimou scored seven points with five rebounds. The Golden Falcons received six points, four rebounds, six assists and three steals from sophomore guard Jaylen Colon (Paterson, N.J.). Young (7-11 FG) finished with 15 points and Breeding added 13 points and eight rebounds for Concordia (5-21, 4-13).
Felician is 5-1 in February.
The Golden Falcons play their final home game of 2019-20 on Wednesday at 8 p.m. in Rutherford, N.J. Team manager Christina Carrington and seniors Chris Garcia (Howard Beach, N.Y.), Lewis, Jared Pearson (Woodbridge, N.J.) Reid and Shimou will be honored in a pre-game ceremony.
