Box Score FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Felician University men's basketball team tipped off the 26th season in program history on Saturday. The Golden Falcons received a career-high 23 points and four steals from sophomore guard Nas Amos (Newark, N.J.) but were defeated by Queens (N.Y.) College, 83-78, in non-conference action at Fitzgerald Gymnasium.
Junior Jaylen Colon (Paterson, N.J.) totaled 13 points for Felician and classmate Dee-End Mcrae (Newark, N.J.) collected 12 points and seven rebounds. Freshman guard Shamar Chester (Queens, N.Y.) topped five double-figure scorers for Queens with 20 points.
The Knights quickly erased an early 14-7 Felician lead. The latter stages of the opening period were closely contested and saw the hosts emerge with a 37-34 halftime edge.
Still ahead, 45-41, with 16:27 to play in regulation time, Queens went on a quick 7-0 run to force the Golden Falcons to play from behind for the balance of the contest. The Knights took their largest lead of 76-62 following Chester's three-point field goal at the 6:13 mark. Felician came as close as 80-76 with 1:31 to play on an Amos layup, but a basket and free throw by William Ellis (Valley Stream, N.Y.) help secure the victory for the hosts.
Queens outrebounded the Golden Falcons by a 46-29 margin. Knight senior Eddie Mehmetaj (Jamaica, N.Y.) finished with 14 points, 11 rebounds and six assists and Ellis added 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Felician junior Omar Ramos (Sicklerville, N.J.) scored a career-best 10 points.
The Golden Falcons return to action on Nov. 20 for a 2 p.m. tipoff at Bloomsburg University.
