Box Score BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – Junior guard Jaylen Colon (Paterson, N.J.) had three rebounds, a steal, and was 7 for 8 at the foul line during the final 40 seconds to help Felician University preserve an 89-83 non-conference men's basketball victory over host Bloomsburg University on Saturday afternoon at Nelson Fieldhouse.
Colon finished the day with 15 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Felician junior forward Justin Davis (Jersey City, N.J.) (9-14 FG, 5-8 3FG) led all players with 24 points, and classmate Dee-End McRae (Newark, N.J.) (8-12 FG) recorded 20 points and nine rebounds.
The Golden Falcons (1-1) scored the game's first five points and never trailed. The visitors were ahead by as many as 12 points during the opening period and 45-34 at halftime.
Felician was briefly up by 13 on two occasions early in the second half. But the Huskies (0-2) pulled back to within two possessions, 65-60, on two Matt Bengel (Erie, Pa.) free throws with 7:34 left in regulation time, and crept to a 75-71 deficit on Bengel's transition layup at the 4:11 mark. Each time, the Golden Falcons extended the margin, but a Justin Anderson (Philadelphia, Pa.) layup and a Bengel three-point field goal sliced a seven-point bulge to 82-80 at 0:57.
On Felician's next possession, Colon came up with an offensive rebound, was fouled, and sank both free throws in a one-and-one situation. He then stole the Huskies' in-bounds pass, forcing Bloomsburg to foul him again. Colon made two more free throws for a six-point edge. After a Husky bucket, the Golden Falcons inbounded the ball to Colon out of a timeout, and once again, he converted a pair at the charity stripe for an 88-82 edge and six seconds left. Each team then split a pair at the line for the final margin.
Bengel totaled 21 points and Ash Kemble (Myerstown, Pa.) (9-13 FG) had 20 points for Bloomsburg. Felician sophomore guard Nas Amos (Newark, N.J.) (6-8 FG) netted 14 points with four assists and no turnovers.
Both teams were efficient from the floor, with Felician shooting 53 percent and Bloomsburg 54 percent. The Golden Falcons collected a 36-28 rebounding advantage and outscored their hosts, 15-9, at the foul line.
Felician plays its home opener on Tuesday at 6 p.m. against Roberts Wesleyan College in Rutherford, N.J.
