Box Score UNION, N.J. – Felician University redshirt freshman midfielder Robert Grasso (Islip, N.Y.) led all players with five goals, but the Golden Falcons were defeated by host Kean University, 19-7, in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Saturday morning at Kean Alumni Stadium. The Golden Falcons and Cougars were meeting for the first time.
Grasso's scoring total came on nine shots, and he added three ground balls. He is the first Felician player to enjoy multiple 5+ goal games in a career. Senior Ausar Wright (Pemberton, N.J.) had a goal and an assist and junior Anthony Hanratty (Hewitt, N.J.) also scored for Felician (0-2).
Felician was forced to play from behind after being held scoreless during the opening period. Kean (1-0) exited the quarter with a 3-0 lead, then tallied twice in the first five minutes of period two. The spread reached 6-0 before Wright found the cage with six minutes, 25 seconds, remaining until halftime. The Cougars, however, broke the game open with four scores during the final 2:11 of the half -- three with a man advantage.
Kean led by as much as 12-1 before Grasso netted five goals in the game's final 18 minutes.
The Cougars outshot Felician, 71-19. Golden Falcons junior goalkeeper Pat Hemmer (Staten Island, N.Y.) faced 63 of those shots and tied his own school record with 23 saves. Hemmer also led the visitors with five ground balls.
Sophomore midfielder Anthony Porter (Scotch Plains, N.J.) paced Kean with eight points (3g 5a) and six ground balls.
Felician is scheduled to host Walsh University on Mar. 13 at noon in Lyndhurst, N.J.
