Box Score LYNDHURST, N.J. – The Georgian Court University men's lacrosse team pulled away from host Felician University for a 15-5 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory on Saturday night at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex. Both teams were playing their 2021 CACC opener.
Senior Ausar Wright (Pemberton, N.J./Ewing) and freshman Robert Grasso (Islip, N.Y./Islip) scored twice each for Felician (1-4, 0-1 CACC), with freshman Jabes Escalante (Chelsea, Mass./Chelsea) also denting the goal column. Georgian Court senior Lucas Iarossi (Belmar, N.J./Wall) led all players with six points – two goals and four assists.
The Golden Falcons took advantage of an early Lion penalty to tally the game's first goal, with James D'Albora (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) setting up Wright one minute, nine seconds, into the contest. GCU, however, finished the first period with a 4-1 lead. The second quarter followed the same pattern. Escalante found the cage 1:05 into action, but the visitors responded with four scores and led, 8-2, at halftime.
Felician cut into its deficit by notching the first three goals of the second half, with Wright scoring once and Grasso twice all in a span of two minutes, one second. But Lion goalkeeper Austin Geissel (Pompton Plains, N.J./Pequannock) saved the Golden Falcons' next three offerings, and GCU picked up a pair of goals in the final two minutes of the third period.
Georgian Court secured the victory by outscoring their hosts, 5-0, during the final quarter, using a 17-5 shot advantage.
Felician goalie Pat Hemmer (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) finished with 16 saves. Jose McLean-Byrd (Bronx, N.Y./Mount St. Michael Academy) was 16 for 23 on faceoffs and led the Golden Falcons with six ground balls. D'Albora had five ground balls.
GCU featured eight goal scorers. Graduate student Tanner Lee (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) (one assist) and senior Randy Collins (Mays Landing, N.J./Absegami) totaled three apiece. Geissel earned the victory with 14 saves.
Felician travels to Post University for a 3 p.m. faceoff on Tuesday in Waterbury, Conn.
