Men's Lacrosse Enjoys Record-Setting Victory At Post

Box Score

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Felician University men's lacrosse team set several program records, including most goals in a game, during its 16-13 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory over host Post University on Tuesday afternoon at LaMoy Field. Felician (2-4, 1-1 CACC) earned the first win in a true road game in its four-year history.

Redshirt freshman midfielder Robert Grasso (Islip, N.Y.) scored a Golden Falcon record nine goals. His two assists gave him another Felician standard with 11 points. With the scoring outburst, Grasso moved his season totals to 26 goals and 30 points in six games, setting school single-season scoring records as well. All four marks were formerly held by teammate Ausar Wright (Pemberton, N.J.).

Sophomore faceoff man Jose McLean-Byrd (Bronx, N.Y.) set the tone for the Golden Falcons on the day. He broke two of his own Felician records by winning 23 faceoffs (in 29 attempts) and picking up 19 ground balls.

Despite the gaudy statistics, the result was in doubt until the closing minutes. The visitors tallied the final five scores of the second period to carry a 9-5 lead into halftime. But with Felician still ahead, 11-8, the Eagles (0-3, 0-2) rattled off four goals in span of just over four minutes to take the lead late in the third period. Wright found the cage with nine seconds left in the third, and the teams entered the final 15 minutes even at 12-12.

Junior attackman Anthony Hanratty (Hewitt, N.J.) put the Golden Falcons ahead to stay with a goal 50 seconds into the fourth quarter. Grasso scored twice in the next four minutes, and the Felician defense held post to one fourth-period goal.

Felician junior goalkeeper Pat Hemmer (Staten Island, N.Y.) allowed 11 goals in 59 minutes and earned the victory with 16 saves. Hemmer also collected three ground balls to run his career total to 100, joining McLean-Byrd (174) as the only players in Golden Falcon history with 100 or more.

Wright accumulated four goals and an assist and sophomore Al Huss (Mount Tabor, N.J.) led the Golden Falcon defense with three caused turnovers. Freshman Dylan Heald (Colchester, Conn.) had five goals and two assists and classmate Nick Meier (Bethel, Conn.) added three goals and three assists for Post. Eagle goalie Manuele D'Alessio (Mount Laurel, N.J.) stopped 14 shots in 58 minutes.

Felician hosts Wilmington (Del.) University in CACC action on Apr. 24.
