Men's Basketball Defeats GCU; Davids Make Golden Falcon History

Box Score

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Junior swingman Jay'von Jackson (Plainfield, N.J./St. Mary-Elizabeth) recorded 21 points and six rebounds in 18 minutes off the bench to help lead Felician University to a 90-75 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's basketball victory over visiting Georgian Court University on Saturday afternoon at Job Gymnasium.

Following the NCAA Division II "dark" period and three postponements due to COVID-19 protocols, Felician (8-4, 3-1 CACC) was playing at home for the first time since December 20, 2021 – a stretch of 26 days. The Golden Falcons have won three consecutive games and five of their last six.

After missing his team's first 11 games due to injury, redshirt freshman guard Julius David Jr. (Rutherford, N.J./Elizabeth) checked in for Felician with just over two minutes remaining in the first half. By doing so, David became the initial second-generation student-athlete in the 26-year history of Felician Athletics. His father, Julius David Sr., played basketball for the Golden Falcons from 2000-02 and is now a member of head coach Ivan Lewis' staff. The younger David finished Saturday with three points and an assist in 10 minutes.

Jackson was 7 for 9 from three-point range to account for all of his scoring. His seven threes were one shy of his own program record. Classmate Jaylen Colon (Paterson, N.J./John F. Kennedy) was 7 for 9 from the floor and netted 20 points. Georgian Court sophomore Clint Wright Jr. (Suffolk, Va./Lakeland) (10-14 FG, 5-5 FT) took game-high honors with 27 points

Leading, 23-15, midway through the first half, Felician assembled an 11-0 run. Jackson canned a pair of threes during the stretch before capping it by finding Justin Davis (Jersey City, N.J./Hoboken) for a dunk, forcing a GCU timeout at the 7:21 mark. The hosts settled for a 46-33 halftime advantage.

The Lions chopped an 18-point deficit to 59-50 following a Christian Armstrong-Thomas (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) layup with 12:09 to play in regulation time. But GCU (2-13, 1-6) never crept any closer. A Nas Amos (Newark, N.J./Newark East Side) three touched off a 21-6 spurt allowing Felician to take its largest lead, 80-56, with 5:35 left.

Felician was 13 of 26 from distance, with the amount and percentage both season highs. The Golden Falcons also possessed a 40-26 rebounding advantage. Davis registered 12 points and a game-high 12 rebounds and Amos turned in 14 points and four boards.

Felician is next in action on Tuesday, when it travels to Waterbury, Conn., for a 7:30 p.m. tip against Post University, the first-place team in the CACC North Division.
