Box Score FAIRMONT, W.Va. – It was a battle of Falcons Saturday afternoon as the Felican men's basketball Golden Falcons met the Fighting Falcons from Fairmont State. While the Golden Falcons made a season-best 16 threes, highlighted by a career-high six from Deiker Padrino (Bogota, N.J. / Bogota) and five from Julius David Jr. (Rutherford, N.J. / Elizabeth) towards a team-best 21 points, it was the West Virginia school that prevailed in a 108-76 victory.
David Jr. got things off to a swift start for Felician, nailing his first four threes in the opening five minutes to take a 17-13 lead. Both sides played close for most of the first half, with the score in favor of Fairmont State at 38-34 with 3:45 before the half. The Fighting Falcons outscored the Golden Falcons 14-7 down the stretch to take a 52-41 lead into intermission, then continued on to stretch its lead to as much as 36 in the latter session.
Sean McCarthy (Cork, Ireland / Colaiste Choilm) made 3-of-4 threes and 8-of-12 from the field to rank second with 19 points, while Padrino's career best from behind the arc netted him 18 points. Jonathan Edwards (Waterbury, Conn. / Waterbury Career Academy) was the fourth Felician player in double figures with ten points with six rebounds, while Angelo Santiago (Peekskill, N.Y. / Marist) led the game with 12 rebounds and five points, highlighted by a long-range buzzer beater at the end of the first half.
The Golden Falcons shot 47.5 from the field (28-of-59) to the Fighting Falcons' 55.8 (43-of-77). Felician's 16-of-33 day on 3-pointers was met by Fairmont's 17-of-39, while the host school led 42-25 on the boards.
Head coach Ivan Lewis' team has a quick turnaround with a home game Monday against Staten Island at 7:00 p.m.
