Box Score RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Dominican (N.Y.) College pulled away early in the second half and went on to a 92-78 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's basketball victory over host Felician University on Tuesday night at Job Gymnasium. Dominican (14-3, 7-2 CACC) is ranked No. 24 in the most recent national NCAA Division II coaches' poll and No. 22 in the media version.
Felician junior Justin Davis (Jersey City, N.J./Hoboken) turned in his fifth "double-double" of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Classmates Jaylen Colon (Paterson, N.J./John F. Kennedy) (four assists) and Etnik Peci (Pristina, Kosovo/Renaissance Academy [Calif.]) netted 15 points each, and junior Dee-End McRae (Newark, N.J./Newark Central) amassed 13 points, eight rebounds and four assists for the Golden Falcons.
Graduate forward Jalen Burgess (Spring Gardens, N.Y./Elmont) paced five double-figure scorers for the Chargers with 25 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Dominican shot 54 percent from the floor and committed just ten turnovers.
The opening period featured 11 lead changes. Felician led by eight points on two occasions, the last time at 31-23 with 6:52 to go until the break following a three-point field goal by Colon. But Dominican took the lead for good, 37-35, on a Wahaad Johnson (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bedford Academy) jumper a few minutes later, and the visitors entered halftime ahead, 41-35
The Chargers quickly stretched to a 52-41 lead coming out of the locker room. Still ahead, 58-48, with 13:55 to play in regulation time, Dominican used a quick 12-5 spurt over the next three minutes to claim its largest advantage of the night. Felician came as close as 70-60 following a made Peci jump shot with 9:22 left, but Dominican tallied the next five points and never saw its bulge drop under 14 the rest of the night.
Joshua Serrano (Amityville, N.Y./Amityville) scored 18 points for Dominican. Felician received nine points and five rebounds from freshman Sean McCarthy (Cork, Ireland/Colaiste Choilm).
Felician plays a CACC makeup contest on Thursday at 8:30 p.m. against Nyack College in Jersey City.
