Box Score RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician University redshirt sophomore guard Nas Amos (Newark, N.J./Newark East Side) made a tiebreaking three-point field goal with 1.0 seconds remaining in regulation time to lift the Golden Falcons to an 83-80 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's basketball victory over visiting Nyack College on Saturday afternoon at Job Gymnasium. Felician earned a sweep of its two-game season series with the Warriors.
With the result, the Golden Falcons (15-8, 10-5 CACC) clinched a spot in the 2022 CACC Championship tournament. Nyack (10-11, 7-7) and Bloomfield College are tied for fourth place, and the final playoff position, in the CACC North Division and each have three games remaining. But one of them is against each other, so Felician, with two games left, can finish no worse than fourth in the division.
Felician will compete in the conference tournament for the fourth consecutive year the event will have been staged.
On Saturday, the Golden Falcons led, 80-70, following an Amos three-pointer with 3:55 to play. But the Felician offense went cold. The Warriors pulled to within 80-78 on a Jayden Dawson (Teaneck, N.J./CC of Morris) dunk with 1:22 to play, and completed the comeback on a tying layup by Joel Bailey (St. Catherine, Jamaica/Our Saviour Lutheran) at 0:11.9.
A timing issue forced a delay, and eventually 10.5 seconds were put on the game clock with Felician in-bounding in the backcourt in front of the Nyack bench. Amos caught the entry pass, dribbled past the midline then diagonally to his left and launched from the elbow extended. The Warriors could only get off a desperation heave as time expired.
Amos finished with 16 points, five rebounds and six assists. Junior Justin Davis (Jersey City, N.J./Hoboken) led the Golden Falcons with 18 points, and classmate Dee-End McRae (Newark, N.J./Newark Central) tallied 15 points and eight rebounds. Junior Omar Ramos (Sicklerville, N.J./Williamstown), making his first collegiate start, matched a career high with 10 points.
The first half featured seven lead changes before Felician emerged with a 48-46 edge at the break. The Golden Falcons never trailed during period two, and the late 10-point edge was their largest of the day. Felician outscored the Warriors, 20-13, at the foul line.
Senior guard D'ondre Dent (Piscataway, N.J./CC of Morris) led four double-figure scorers for Nyack with 26 points. Dent was 10 for 14 from the floor, including 6 of 9 from three-point range.
Felician closes the regular season with two more home games, Caldwell comes to Job Gym on Presidents Day for a 3:30 makeup contest, and the Golden Falcons face first-place Post University on Feb. 26 at 8 p.m.
