Box Score RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Despite a 21-for-25 performance from junior faceoff man Tajae McLean-Byrd (Bronx, N.Y./Mount St. Michael Academy), Felician University came up on the short end of an 18-3 non-conference men's lacrosse decision to visiting Franklin Pierce University on Tuesday morning at Tryon Field.
The Ravens and Golden Falcons were meeting for the first time.
Franklin Pierce (3-0) kept Felician off the scoreboard during the first half, carrying a 6-0 lead into the intermission. Raven senior goalkeeper Nathan Taylor (Danville, N.H./Timberlane Regional) made eight of his 14 saves during the first two periods.
The visitors stretched their advantage to 9-0 until freshman Tyler Quinn (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat) broke through for Felician with four minutes, 39 seconds, left in period three. Despite the initial possessions gained by McLean-Byrd, however, the Golden Falcons could not further dent the deficit. Sophomore Alfonso Guerrero (Bellmore, N.Y./W.C. Mepham) and freshman Filipe Correia (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) tallied fourth-quarter goals for the hosts.
Senior Stephen Ell (Peabody, Mass./Peabody) led FPU with four goals and Raven sophomores Connor McCormack (Hampstead, N.H./Pinkerton Academy) (two assists) and Conor Rooney (Wilmington, Mass./Shawsheen Valley) added three each. McLean-Byrd led all players with 10 ground balls and Felician freshman long-stick midfielder Liam Dunn (Murfreesboro, Tenn./Waterford Kettering [Mich.]) picked up nine ground balls and an assist.
Golden Falcon freshman goalie Nick Grebe (Farmingville, N.Y./Sachem East) was credited with 11 saves.
Felician hosts American International College on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Paramus Catholic High School.
