Box Score RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The Felician University men's lacrosse team earned an 11-9 non-conference victory over host St. Thomas Aquinas College on Wednesday afternoon at Spartan Field. Sophomore attackman Robert Grasso (Islip, N.Y.) led Felician (3-0) with four goals and one assist.
Felician, a fifth-year program, set the school record for victories. The Golden Falcons extended the best start and longest winning streak in their history.
Felician outshot the Spartans, 46-26, and Golden Falcon freshman goalkeeper Nick Grebe (Farmingville, N.Y.) earned the victory with nine saves. Freshman Filipe Correia (Brick, N.J.) collected two goals and an assist and classmate Tyler Quinn (Barnegat, N.J.) (five ground balls) also scored twice for the visitors.
Felician never trailed on the day. The Golden Falcons moved head for good, 5-4, on Grasso's marker five seconds before halftime. Grasso continued the momentum for his team by scoring one minute, 17 seconds into period three, and a Quinn goal at the 8:50 mark of the third put Felician ahead, 7-4
St. Thomas Aquinas (0-2) pulled to within 8-6 at the end of the third quarter on a Carlos Aguilar (Nyack, N.Y.) goal during the final minute. But Felician faceoff man Tajae McLean-Byrd (Bronx, N.Y.) won the draw to open the fourth, scooped the ground ball, and found the cage to restore the three-goal edge. STAC answered with a man-down score just over a minute later, but Felician took its largest lead of the day with tallies by Grasso and Quinn, the latter with 7:07 remaining. The Spartans scored twice 46 seconds apart down the stretch but could not get closer than the final margin.
McLean-Byrd finished 14 for 21 on faceoffs with 10 ground balls. Braden Struss (Langley, British Columbia) had three goals, an assist and four ground balls and Giorgio D'Angelo (Highland, N.Y.) made 17 saves in 43 minutes for the Spartans.
Felician travels to Wheeling, W, Va, for a noon whistle against Wheeling University on Saturday.
