Box Score RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician University scored eight consecutive fourth-quarter goals to pull away for a 13-8 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's lacrosse victory over visiting Post University on Wednesday Afternoon at Tryon Field. Felician (5-3, 1-0 CACC) won its CACC opener for the first time in the five-year history of its program.
Freshman midfielder Luke Dayton (Haddon Township, N.J./Haddon Towship) sparked the surge. Dayton scored the tying and go-ahead goals for Felician early in the fourth, both from 15 to 18 yards away. Sophomore attackman Robert Grasso (Islip, N.Y./Islip) finished with three goals and an assist and Dayton also had three goals for the Golden Falcons.
Felician led, 4-3, at halftime and notched the first goal of the third period. The Eagles, however, closed with four consecutive markers and entered the final 15 minutes with a 7-5 edge. Golden Falcon sophomore Jabes Escalante (Chelsea, Mass./Chelsea) converted an open look 1:22 into the fourth before Dayton knotted the score from long range with his team a man down at the 12:45 mark.
Dayton put the hosts ahead to stay by accepting a pass from classmate Liam Dunn (Murfreesboro, Tenn./Waterford Kettering [Mich.]) and finishing on another attempt from distance with 10:29 to play. Felician then took control by scoring five times in a span of two minutes, four seconds. Dayton capped the uprising with a third long-distance laser with 5:43 left.
Post owned a 38-36 shot advantage. Felician freshman goalkeeper Nick Grebe (Farmingville, N.Y./Sachem East) made a season-high 20 saves and picked up six ground balls. Dunn, a freshman long-stick midfielder, was active all afternoon, finishing with a goal, two assists, eight ground balls, and four caused turnovers.
Freshman Braeden Lockyear (King, Ontario/Everest Academy) led the Eagles (3-4, 1-1) with four points (two goals, two assists). Post goalie Russell Robinson (Manassas, Va./Osbourn Park) finished with 15 saves and three ground balls. Felician junior Tajae McLean-Byrd (Bronx, N.Y./Mount St. Michael Academy) was 13 for 21 on faceoffs with seven ground balls.
Felician travels to Dominican (N.Y.) College on Saturday for a 7 p.m. whistle in Hillburn, N.Y.
