RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The Felician University men's lacrosse team fell behind, 7-1, at halftime of its 13-9 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss to host Dominican (N.Y.) College on Saturday night at Torne Valley Sports Complex.

Sophomores Jabes Escalante (Chelsea, Mass.) (one assist), Robert Grasso (Islip, N.Y.) and Alfonso Guerrero (Bellmore, N.Y.) recorded two goals each for Felician (5-4, 1-1 CACC). Sophomore midfielder William Gordon (Amityville, N.Y.) led all players with five goals for Dominican.

The Chargers (5-3, 2-0) jumped out to a quick lead, with Gordon and Kyle Benedetto (Wantagh, N.Y.) finding the cage within the game's first two minutes. Dominican led, 4-0, after one period and pushed its edge to 6-0 before an Escalante marker with 2:15 left until halftime. The Chargers, however, received a goal from Daniel Carson (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) to restore the six-goal margin at the break. Felician out-shot the Chargers, 16-15, during the first half, but Dominican goalkeeper Patrick Gifford (Galloway, N.J.) made nine of his 15 saves during the first two periods.

The Golden Falcons pulled to within 9-5 at the end of the third quarter, but the hosts responded with scores by Gordon and James Conklin (Warwick, N.Y.) during the first 4:06 of the fourth. Escalante and Liam Dunn (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) caged shots within 16 seconds of each other, the latter with 10:06 to play, but the visitors never cut the margin lower than four.

Benedetto collected three goals and an assist and Gifford added three ground balls and two caused turnovers to his save total for Dominican. Felician faceoff man Tajae McLean-Byrd (Bronx, N.Y.) was 15 for 24 from the 'X' and led the visitors with five ground balls. Golden Falcon freshman Finn Crocker (South Hamilton, Mass.) added a goal and four grounders.

Felician continues its CACC schedule by hosting Chestnut Hill College on Friday, April 1, at noon in Rutherford, N.J.
