Men's Lacrosse Earns Senior Day Victory Over Davis & Elkins, 15-9

Box Score

CLIFTON, N.J. – The Felician University men's lacrosse team outscored Davis & Elkins College, 6-0, during the fourth quarter to earn a 15-9 non-conference victory over the visiting Senators on Saturday night at Clifton Stadium.

The game concluded 2022, the fifth season in program history, for Felician. At 7-7, the Golden Falcons enjoyed their first non-losing season, and set school records for overall and Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (2-4) victories.

Prior to the game, Felician held a Senior Day ceremony. Among the seniors the Golden Falcons sent off was fifth-year defenseman Cody Hildebrand (Bristol, Conn./Bristol Central). By taking the field on Saturday, Hildebrand has participated in all 53 games in Felician history. He is the Golden Falcons' all-time leader in caused turnovers with 39 and is second with 129 career ground balls.

Also honored pregame were defensemen Anthony Derin (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) and Al Huss (Mount Tabor, N.J./Parsippany Hills), goalkeeper Ash Kolz (Luxembourg City, Luxembourg/Lake Braddock [Va.]) and midfielder Richie Mejia (Clifton, N.J./Clifton).

Felician led, 7-5, at halftime, then used goals by Jabes Escalante (Chelsea, Mass./Chelsea) and Filipe Correia (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) during the first two minutes of period three to extend to a four-goal advantage. But the Senators evened the score by tallying four times in a period of 2 ½ minutes, with Austin Derx (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster Central) obtaining the equalizer at the 7:42 mark. The 9-9 score held for the balance of the period.

The visitors never found the cage again. Felician controlled possession in the final quarter, committing only four turnovers and seeing junior Taj McLean-Byrd (Bronx, N.Y./Mount St. Michael Academy) win six of seven faceoffs. Freshman Luke Dayton (Haddon Township, N.J./Haddon Townshp) notched the eventual game-winner with 11:50 to play. Robert Grasso (Islip, N.Y./Islip) and Alfonso Guerrero (Bellmore, N.Y./W.C. Mepham) scored 44 seconds apart, the latter with 7:13 remaining, to help the hosts pull away, and Felician added three more goals down the stretch.

Grasso finished with seven goals and two assists, running his point total to a CACC-high 66 (46 goals, 20 assists). McLean-Byrd was 19 of 27 on faceoffs with 13 ground balls, and freshman goalie Nick Grebe (Farmingville, N.Y./Sachem East) made 10 saves.

Senior Nolan Morrison (Campbell River, British Columbia/Carihi) led D&E with four goals and two assists.

Hildebrand amassed three ground balls and four caused turnovers in his final game, while Huss had one of each.
