Box Score RUTHERFORD, NJ – After a neck-and-neck first half, Felician men's lacrosse went scoreless in the third quarter to allow Saint Thomas Aquinas to take the 8-5 lead to ultimately win the Thursday night match up, 12-6, at Tryon Field.
Jayden Basalatan (Matawan, NJ) paced the Golden Falcon offense with 3 goals on 10 shots and six ground balls, while Alfonso Guerrero, (Bellmore, NY) Jabes Escalante (Chelsea, MA), and Robert Grasso (Islip, NY) (one assist) recorded a goal each.
The Spartans were on the board first with a goal at the 11 and a half mark, but the lead was short lived as Grasso netted his only goal of the contest to tie. Guerrero's lone goal would give the Golden Falcons the advantage to have STAC answer back in the final minute of the quarter.
The second quarter looked similar to the first as both teams caged 3 goals apiece to enter halftime tied at 5. The Spartan defense pressured the green-and-gold as Felician outshot its opponents 11-6 in the third, but the Golden Falcons could not find the back of the net. The visiting squad would convert the failed attempts to three goals in the quarter to shut out the hosts for the 8-5 advantage.
Well into the final stanza, Basalatan recorded his final goal of the night, but with only a minute left and with STAC putting four more goals onto the scoreboard, the Golden Falcons were defeated 12-6.
Men's lacrosse currently sits 1-3 overall with its next match up happening this Sunday, March 5th, as they hit the road to face Saint Michael's in Colchester, VT at 2:00PM.
