NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. - Did we say three women's titles after women's indoor track won the ECC? We apologize, let's make it FOUR. Felician women's swimming dominated in the water as they maintained first place throughout the three-day championship event of the METS for the fourth women's title in Felician Athletics history.Â
With a final score of 1,249 points, Felician women's swim swept the METS after the final events of the 1650 Free, 200 Backstroke, 100 Free, 200 Breast, 200 Butterfly, and 400 Freestyle Relay.Â
Let's start with the relay! The team of
Natalia Amano (Sao Paolo, Brazil),
Amelia Mayers (Bridgetown, Barbados),
Katinka Ummels (Urmond, Netherlands) and
Dedrie Higgs (Freeport, Bahamas) secured the gold medal with a finishing time of 3:34.16.. almost 20-seconds ahead of the second place finisher.
The Golden Falcons took the silver and bronze medals in the 1650 event when
Salma Nuino Galan (Logrono, Spain) tapped the wall at a time of 18:34.66 and
Tijana Lukic (Krusevac, Serbia) right behind at 19:04.28. In the 200 Backstroke, Amano wins the gold for a first place finish of 2:05.10.
The trio of Mayers, Ummels, and Higgs posted first to third place finishes in the 100 Free with Mayers out in front for the gold for a time of 52.92. Ummels was not too far behind when she finished second at 53.40 and Higgs in third at 54.29.Â
Juliana Kratka (Bachenbülach, Switzerland), who was ranked seventh in the nation in the 200 Breaststroke event earlier this season, took first in the event with a time of 2:20.55.
Christine Fabo Mbite (Polokwane, South Africa) took second with a clocked in time of 2:29.85.Â
Cleo Kepka (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.) took the silver in the final event of the weekend o the 200 Butterfly when she tapped the wall at 2:14.64.Â
In its second official season as a Felician Athletics varsity sport, the women's swimming squad has shown promising progress following the METS Championship win Sunday evening or the growing department.Â
