Rutherford, N.J. - The Felician men's soccer team put together a strong performance but fell 2-1 to Wilmington on Sunday afternoon.
Before kickoff, the Golden Falcons honored their senior class for their commitment and contributions to the program. Felician carried that momentum into the opening half, applying steady pressure with five shots and four corner kicks. However, Wilmington capitalized in the 36th minute, taking a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Felician found its breakthrough in the 69th minute when
Davide Carmignani netted the equalizer, finishing a sequence from
Kohta Yamanashi and
Ayato Kaneko. The Golden Falcons continued to push forward, ultimately outshooting the Wildcats 11-9 and earning a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Wilmington, however, converted a late penalty in the 89th minute to secure the 2-1 final.
Gerardo Mendez tallied two saves in goal for the Golden Falcons.
The Golden Falcons return to action Wednesday night, as they travel to take on Queens College.
