Softball Drops Two To Close Out The UNCP Invitational

Pembroke, NC - Felician went battled, pushing Kutztown to the final out before a heartbreaking seventh-inning walk-off ended a 4–3 thriller, then battled early and erased a deficit before ultimately falling 7–3 to UNC Pembroke.

Game One

Felician pushed Kutztown to the final out but suffered a tough 4–3 loss Sunday morning  after the Golden Bears walked it off in the bottom of the seventh.

The game remained scoreless through two innings before Kutztown opened the scoring in the third with an RBI double. Felician answered in the fifth, as Karina De La Vega tripled to right-center and later scored on an RBI single by Annika Smith to tie the game.

Kutztown regained the lead in the sixth on an RBI double, but the Golden Falcons responded again in the top of the seventh. De La Vega and Alyson Walling reached to start the inning, and Kailey Alas delivered a two-run single to right field, giving Felician a 3–2 advantage.

Kutztown answered in the bottom half, using two hits and a hit-by-pitch to set the stage before a two-run double ended the game.

As a team, Felician finished with three runs on seven hits and committed no errors defensively. The Golden Falcons produced extra-base hits from De La Vega and Mikayla Brown and capitalized on late scoring opportunities to take the lead in the final inning.

De La Vega led the offense, going 3-for-3 with two runs scored, while Alas drove in two runs and Smith added an RBI. In the circle, Kelsey Vitalis went the distance, throwing seven innings and striking out five while battling through traffic throughout the game.

Game Two

Felician battled early and briefly erased a deficit but ultimately fell 7–3 to UNC Pembroke at Willoughby Field.

UNC Pembroke struck first with two runs in the opening inning, but Felician responded in the second. After loading the bases, a groundout brought home Alyson Walling to cut the deficit to one. UNC Pembroke answered in the bottom half to restore a two-run cushion.

The Golden Falcons delivered their biggest swing in the fifth inning. Hannah Ramirez doubled to lead off the frame, and Kimberly Torres followed with a two-run home run to right field, tying the game at 3–3.

UNC Pembroke quickly responded in the bottom of the fifth, stringing together six hits to score four runs and regain control. Felician was held scoreless over the final two innings despite drawing late baserunners.

As a team, Felician finished with three runs on six hits and drew two walks. Torres drove in two runs, while Kaitlyn DeBondt added an RBI. Ramirez reached base twice and scored, and the Golden Falcons limited the damage defensively outside of the fifth inning.

In the circle, Jocelyn Moody worked four innings, striking out four, while Mallory Shevlin and Skye Limardo combined to close out the game. Limardo held UNC Pembroke scoreless over the final 1.1 innings.
