Springfield, MA. - The Felician University Golden Falcons earned a hard-fought 12–11 victory over the American International College Yellow Jakcets Saturday afternoon, using a strong fourth quarter to secure the road win.
Felician opened the scoring in the first quarter when Kayla Fox finished a pass from Madison Cancela. Mary Gazaleh added two early goals, including one off an assist from Gabby Sammarco, helping the Golden Falcons take a 3–2 lead before AIC tied the game at three heading into the second quarter.
The Golden Falcons gained momentum in the second period with a four-goal run. Cancela started the stretch with a goal assisted by Aly Amadruto before Sammarco and Fox found the back of the net. Fox later added another goal off a pass from Kathleen Lopez as Felician built a 7–4 halftime advantage.
American International responded in the third quarter, scoring four straight goals to take an 8–7 lead. Felician goalkeeper Jessica Naoum helped keep the Golden Falcons within reach with several key saves during the period.
Felician regained control in the fourth quarter. Gazaleh tied the game at eight on an assist from Cancela, and Lopez followed with another score, also set up by Cancela. Amadruto then gave Felician the lead with a goal off a feed from Mackenzie Fox and Natalia Ogando extended the advantage to 11–9 midway through the quarter.
After AIC cut the deficit late, Cancela delivered the decisive goal with 46 seconds remaining, finishing a pass from Amadruto to make it 12–10. The Yellow Jackets added a goal in the final seconds, but Felician held on for the one-goal victory.
Cancela paced the Golden Falcons with a goal and multiple assists, while Gazaleh and Fox each scored multiple times. Amadruto contributed a goal and assist while helping control possession, and Naoum recorded several important saves in goal to help secure the win.
The Golden Falcons play again on March 18th at Bentley University.
