The Felician University women's lacrosse team showed determination down the stretch, but a fast start by Wilmington (Del.) proved decisive in a 19-1 conference loss on April 18.
Wilmington controlled the game early, scoring seven goals in each of the first two quarters to take a 14-0 lead into halftime. Felician found more offensive opportunities as the game progressed, finishing with 19 shots after being limited to just three in the opening half.
The Golden Falcons broke through in the fourth quarter when Madison Cancela converted a man-up opportunity, scoring Felician's lone goal of the contest. Cancela also contributed across the field, recording four draw controls and creating chances offensively.
Felician's defensive effort remained active despite the pressure, edging Wilmington in ground balls, 13-12. Mackenzie Fox led the way with four ground balls, while Kayla Fox added three. Goalkeeper Jessica Naoum tallied eight saves while facing 34 shots.
The Golden Falcons showed resilience in the second half, generating more consistent possessions and scoring chances. Felician will look to carry that momentum forward as they continue conference play.
