Pitching, Offense Efficient In Home-Opening Baseball Victory

Box Score

LYNDHURST, N.J. – Five Felician College pitchers combined a two-hitter and the Golden Falcons put up their best offensive output in nearly two years in a 21-4 non-conference, metal-bat baseball victory over visiting Lincoln (Pa.) University on Tuesday night at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex. Felician (6-12) was playing its 2012 home opener.

Senior Mickey Zudonyi (Holmdel, NJ/Holmdel) went 3 for 4 with a home run and four runs batted in for the Golden Falcons. Gary Lavoie (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) and Casey Phillips (Englewood, FL/Lemon Bay) came off the bench to drive in three runs each, and Lou Testone (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville Manlius) and George Hajjar (Utica, NY/Whitesboro) amassed two hits and two RBI apiece.

Freshman lefthander Jack Fowler (Shrewsbury, NJ/Red Bank Regional) (2-0) was credited with the victory in his first career start. Fowler allowed one hit, struck out a career high six batters and walked one in three innings. Chet Godfrey (Millville, NJ/Millville) followed with three hitless innings.

Felician broke open a scoreless tie with five runs in the bottom of the third inning off of Lion starter Carl Randall (Fort Washington, MD/Gywnn Park) (0-1). Zudonyi's two-run home run and a two-run single by Hajjar highlighted the frame. Randall allowed five runs on four hits in three innings.

The Golden Falcons then scored multiple runs in each of their final four at-bats. In addition to its 14 hits, Felician drew 15 walks and was hit by pitches seven times. The game lasted 3 hours, 21 minutes.

Matthew Anderson (Newark, DE/Hodgson Vo-Tech) had a two-run triple for Lincoln (1-5).

Felician scored 21 runs on March 21, 2010, also against Lincoln.
