Box Score DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Freshman Chet Godfrey (Millville, NJ) pitched six shutout innings and junior Joe Petosa (Spotswood, NJ) homered and drove in four runs as the Felician College baseball team earned a 6-1 non-conference victory over host Mercy College on Thursday afternoon at Mavericks Field.
Petosa gave Godfrey all the offense he would need in the very first inning, when, with two on and one out, he hit a fly ball to deep center field and sped all the way around the bases for a three-run, inside-the-park home run. Petosa lined an RBI double in Felician's two-run fifth inning, and later singled to finish 3 for 4.
Godfrey (4-3), meanwhile, worked into and out of trouble. He gave up six hits, walked two, and hit a batter in his six innings of work, but induced two double plays and picked off a runner. Godfrey finished with two strikeouts, and was backed by four relievers, who allowed one run on two hits in the final three frames.
Mike Farrell (Lincroft, NJ) had a run-scoring single in the fifth and George Hajjar (Utica, NY) an RBI triple in the sixth for the Golden Falcons, who improve to 16-17. Both players finished 2 for 4 during Felician's 10-hit attack. Mercy fell to 6-23.
The victory was No. 199 in the coaching career of ninth-year Felician head man Chris Langan, all with the Golden Falcons. Langan goes for the milestone 200th in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader at Philadelphia University on Saturday.
