Box Score MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Felician College baseball team left 13 runners on base in its 7-4 non-conference loss to Stonehill College during the Northeast Challenge event on Friday afternoon at the Ripken Experience complex. Stonehill (2-1) is ranked No. 5 in the NCAA Division II East Region preseason writers' poll
Felician (3-3) was the designated visiting team in the contest. The Golden Falcons never led, but erased deficits of 2-0 and 3-2 in the early innings. The Skyhawks took the lead for good, 4-3, in the bottom of the fourth when sophomore first-baseman Eric Schneider (Camarillo, Calif.) swiped home plate on the back end of a first-and-third play.
After Stonehill tacked on a run in the fifth, Felician pulled to within 5-4 in the top of the sixth when Aaron Brill's (West Palm Beach, Fla.) one-out single drove in Jordan Tackett (Fredericksburg, Va.), who had doubled. But the Skyhawks took control with two runs on just one hit in the bottom of the frame. Scoreless relief work by Steve Pike (Stoughton, Mass.) and Armand Rugel (Middletown, R.I.) secured the victory for Stonehill. Rugel struck out three batters in two innings and was credited with a save.
Felician out-hit the Skyhawks, 10-8, and also drew eight walks off of four Stonehill pitchers. But the Golden Falcons had a runner thrown out on the bases, hit into two double plays, and went 3 for 18 with runners in scoring position.
Freshman left-hander Chris Falcone (Staten Island, N.Y.) (0-2) started and suffered the pitching loss for Felician, yielding four runs (three earned) on four hits in four innings. He struck out three batters and walked four. Senior Andrew Lombardi (Boonton, N.J.) and Brill each had two hits and an RBI, and Scott DeJong (North Haledon, N.J.) went 2 for 5.
Michael Zeiner (Simsbury, Conn.) went 2 for 3 with three RBI and Dan Fratus (Plymouth, Mass.) doubled, stole two bases and scored three runs to pace Stonehill. The teams combined for 18 hits, seven errors, and six wild pitches.
