Box Score MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Felician College baseball team received seven strong innings from senior pitcher Vic Monteagudo (West Palm Beach, Fla.), but could muster only three base hits in a 1-0 non-conference loss to LIU Post during the Northeast Challenge event on Saturday evening at the Ripken Experience complex.
LIU Post (1-2), the designated visiting team, picked up the game's only run in the top of the third inning. With one out, Vinny Iacono (Nesconset, N.Y.) singled off of Monteagudo and teammate Angel Pimentel (New York, N.Y.) followed with a double. A groundout to second base by Pioneer first-baseman Casey McKay (North Massapequa, N.Y.) plated Iacono.
From there, Monteagudo (1-1) matched zeroes with LIU Post hurler Kevin Chenicek (Levittown, N.Y.) (1-0) into the late innings. He departed after seven frames, having allowed five hits with six strikeouts and three walks in the hard-luck loss.
Felician (3-4) put its leadoff man on second base in both the first and seventh innings without scoring. In the eighth, a two-out error followed by a walk to Matt Caposio (Staten Island, N.Y.) chased Chenicek, but reliever Anthony Zapulla (Staten Island, N.Y.) entered to record a strikeout and end the threat.
Chenicek struck out seven batters and walked one in 7 2/3 innings. Zapulla fanned all four batters he faced and picked up his first save of the season. Scott DeJong (North Haledon, N.J.) doubled for Felician and Caposio and Eric Pecoraro (Toms River, N.J.) had the other two Golden Falcon safeties.
Pimentel was 2 for 3 for the Pioneers, who finished with six hits.
The game was delayed nearly five hours due to rain and the playing of previously scheduled games in the Northeast Challenge.
