Box Score WINTER PARK, Fla. – Junior shortstop Aaron Brill (West Palm Beach, Fla.) singled home the tying runs in the bottom of the ninth inning and the winning run in the 11th, both with two outs, to lead the Felician College baseball team to a dramatic 5-4 non-conference victory over Assumption College on Monday afternoon during the Baseball Week event hosted by Rollins College at Alfond Stadium.
Felician (5-8) could muster just one run on four hits in eight innings against two Greyhound hurlers. But after two walks and a strikeout to start the ninth, senior Jonathan Arche (Miami, Fla.) drew another walk to load the bases. Gabriel Fellin's (Temple, Pa.) groundout moved up all three runners, and Brill followed with a single up the middle to force extra innings.
Freshman right-hander John Holland (Jackson, N.J.) (1-0) pitched scoreless 10th and 11th frames for Felician. His catcher, Jay Collazo (Wall, N.J.) threw out runners attempting to steal to end each inning.
Golden Falcon freshman Matt Caposio (Staten Island, N.Y.) led off the bottom of the 11th with a single off of Matt Metcalf (Warwick, R.I.), the fourth Greyhound hurler of the afternoon. Arche's fielder's choice grounder forced Caposio at second, but he followed by stealing second base.
Fellin lined a single to left field, but Arche was cut down at the plate on a relay throw by shortstop Shane Keddy (Worcester, Mass.). Brill, however, came up with a single to right-center field, plating Fellin with the game-winning run.
Brill, a transfer from Kirkwood Community College, finished 2 for 6 with four RBI and Caposio went 3 for 4 for the Golden Falcons. Senior third baseman Travis Smith (Coventry, R.I.) had a double among three hits to pace Assumption (0-5).
Senior Vic Monteagudo (West Palm Beach, Fla.) started on the mound for Felician and allowed three runs on seven hits with six strikeouts in a no-decision.
