Women's Soccer Tops Lincoln With Late Flurry

Box Score

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. – Felician College scored four times in the final 20 minutes to earn a 5-1 non-conference women's soccer victory over host Lincoln (Pa.) University on Thursday afternoon on the Lincoln campus. Junior midfielder Christen McNair (Iselin, N.J.) and freshman forward Danielle Stoll (Wanaque, N.J.) each picked up their first career goals during the flurry.

Felician (9-3-3) has won four consecutive games, the first time it has done so since 2011.

The Golden Falcons were the first team to dent the scoreboard when senior defender Kristen Toropiw (Hopatcong, N.J.) connected on a 35-yard free kick in the 23rd minute. But Lincoln (5-6-1) answered with 12:47 remaining in the half on an unassisted tally by sophomore Averri Glenn (Piscataway, N.J.). The teams took the 1-1 deadlock into halftime.

Despite building up statistical advantages that finished 23-6 in shots and 9-2 in corner kicks, Felician had difficulty finding the go-ahead goal. Finally, as the game clock wound under 20 minutes, Golden Falcon senior Jordan Farley (Brick, N.J.) cut back from the endline and located junior Macki Groves (Millville, N.J.) open inside of six yards. Groves finished to put the visitors ahead for good with 19:06 to play.

Groves scored again 2 ½ minutes later, with her 13th goal of the season moving her into a tie for the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference lead. Sophomore defender Carly Brantner (Waldwick, N.J.) set up Stoll in the 83rd minute, and McNair struck with 5:47 remaining for the final margin.

Felician sophomore goalkeeper Bjonda Ademi (Wayne, N.J.) played a scoreless second half in relief of Julia Sheridan (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.) and earned the victory with one save. Sheridan was credited with three saves in the opening 4 minutes. Sophomore striker Stephanie Hesse (Lincoln Park, N.J.) came off the bench to record two assists for the Golden Falcons.

Lion sophomore keeper Christian Harris (Rochester, N.Y.) kept her team in the game with 13 saves.
