Rutherford, NJ — The Felician University women's soccer team has made history, snapping an eight-year postseason drought to clinch a berth in the 2025 CACC Tournament.
The Golden Falcons have shown tremendous growth this season, improving their overall record to 4-6-7 after finishing 2-12-3 a year ago. In conference play, Felician battled to a 2-3-6 record, establishing themselves as a tough, competitive opponent throughout the season.
The Falcons' success has been anchored by strong defensive performances and consistent goalkeeping. Sophomore goalkeeper Isabella Riollano stood out as one of the team's key contributors, recording 92 saves, five shutouts, and an impressive .852 save percentage. Her efforts kept Felician in contention during several tight contests.
On the attacking end, veteran forward Kate Braun and rising standout Sierra Moretto led the offensive charge, each scoring four goals on the season. Their ability to create chances and find the back of the net played a crucial role in helping Felician secure valuable points down the stretch.
As the Golden Falcons head into postseason play, they will look to lean on their veteran leadership and defensive resilience to continue their historic run. With a renewed sense of confidence and belief, Felician aims to make a strong statement in the CACC Tournament and build on the foundation laid this season.
As the Golden Falcons gear up for postseason play, we caught up with Head Coach Scott Maloney to reflect on the team's journey through the regular season, the growth he's seen from his group, and what it will take to continue their success in the playoffs. He shared his thoughts on the team's mindset, their resilience through challenges, and the keys to maintaining their momentum heading into the postseason.
Q: What are your personal thoughts on the regular season?
A: "The team has fully bought into the game model, culture and standard this year. The entire team all shared a common goal of making playoffs that they achieved that, the group is eager for more of that feeling that we shared on Tuesday."
Q: What has impressed you the most about this team?
A: "The perseverance of the team this year. No matter the circumstances the team rallied together."
Q: What do you feel was a difficult moment this past season and how do you believe the team handled the adversity?
A: "The most difficult moment was not putting away games that we had leads that resulted in ties. This ultimately put us in the position we were in the final regular season game but, they all came together and played for one another in arguably the most important game of the season vs Caldwell."
Q: What do you believe will be a key factor in the team's success this postseason?
A: "We need to get back to our defensive wall that we had earlier in the season and we need to be more effective in the final third and scoring first."
