Box Score LYNDHURST, N.J. – Felician College sophomore pitcher Dean Loucka (Wood-Ridge, N.J./Wood-Ridge) allowed two hits and struck out a career-high seven batters over six innings to lead the Golden Falcons to a 10-3 non-conference baseball victory over visiting Molloy College on Tuesday night at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex.
Pitching for the first time since Apr. 2, Loucka allowed only one baserunner, a walk, through the first three frames. By then, his teammates had built him a 4-0 lead. The right-hander labored in the fourth, hitting two batters, uncorking a wild pitch and yielding an RBI triple to Molloy junior John Galanoudis (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale). But he worked out of a first-and-third, one-out situation without further damage.
After Loucka stranded a pair of Lion runners in the top of the sixth, the Golden Falcons (20-15) took control with four runs in the home half. Felician loaded the bases with one out on an error and a pair of walks before senior right fielder Jay Collazo (Wall, N.J./Manasquan) blasted a three-run triple to straightaway center field. Following another base on balls, Collazo scored when Joe Petosa (Spotswood, N.J./Spotswood) beat the relay throw on a potential double-play grounder to give the hosts a 9-1 lead.
Loucka (2-0) gave way to the Felician bullpen having thrown 87 pitches, 55 for strikes. The Lions finished with six hits. The Golden Falcons posted seven hits, but also drew nine walks and reached on errors three times. Half of Felician's 10 runs were unearned.
Freshman lefty Bobby Kelly (Mineola, N.Y./Kellenberg) (0-1) made his first career start and suffered the loss for Molloy. He gave up four runs (one earned) on four hits in three innings. His throwing error on Jordan Tackett's (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford) bunt single in the second allowed Felician's first two runs to score. Tackett crossed all the way to third base on the play and came home on a single by Korey McGuiness (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Liberty).
Tackett and Petosa had two hits and two runs scored apiece for Felician, and Scott De Jong (North Haledon, N.J./Eastern Christian) drew three walks. Ronald Bauer Jr. (Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville) was 2 for 4 for the Lions (14-18).
Felician reached 20+ victories for the ninth consecutive season.
