Baseball Drops Non-League Tilt To Dowling, 12-4

Box Score

LYNDHURST, N.J. – The Dowling College baseball team worked six Felician College pitchers for 13 base hits and six walks to earn a 12-4 non-conference victory over the host Golden Falcons on Wednesday night at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex. Dowling is ranked No. 4 and Felician No. 7 in the most recent NCAA Division II East Region writers' poll.

Dowling (18-8) took control with three runs in the top of the third inning. After Anthony Ferrante (Seldon, N.Y./Sachem East) drew a leadoff walk, Felician failed to record an out on consecutive Golden Lion sacrifice bunt attempts. Ferrante scored on a throwing error on the second bunt, and R.J. Going (Islip, N.Y./Islip) followed with a run-scoring groundout. Two batters later, Daniel Parisi (Shirley, N.Y./Longwood) capped the rally with an RBI single.

Leading 4-1, Dowling struck for three runs in the fifth inning to pull away. The Golden Lions added a pair in the seventh and three more in the ninth, before Felician tallied three times in the bottom of the ninth for the final margin. Dowling stole 10 bases in the game, and took advantage of five Felician errors to pick up five unearned runs.

Dowling freshman Cody McPartland (Sound Beach, N.Y./Miller Place) was credited with his first career victory after striking out six batters in five innings of one-run relief. Felician graduate student Billy Rogers (Kendall Park, N.J./South Brunswick) (0-2) was lifted one batter into the third inning and was tagged with the loss

Going finished 4 for 6 with a double, two RBI, and three steals. Rob Veltre (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) was 2 for 5 with two stolen bases for Dowling, and Ferrante scored three runs.

Senior left fielder Joe Petosa (Spotswood, N.J./Spotswood) and freshman catcher Mike Martone (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) picked up two hits apiece for the Golden Falcons (15-13). Senior Chris Faber (Neptune, N.J./Neptune) lined a two-run single in the ninth.
