Box Score

LANTANA, Fla. – Three Southern New Hampshire University pitchers combined on a three-hit shutout as the Penmen defeated Felician College, 6-0, in non-conference baseball action during the Palm Beach Challenge on Thursday afternoon. The game, added to the schedule by both teams on Thursday morning, was the final contest of Felician's spring break trip to Florida.

Southern New Hampshire is ranked No. 2 and Felician No. 6 in the most recent NCAA Division II East Region writers' poll. SNHU (7-5) also checked in at No. 23 in the national D-II writers' poll.

The Penmen, the designated home team, scored an unearned run in each of the first two innings. The scored remained 2-0 until the seventh, by which time both teams had turned the game over to their bullpens. SNHU received a two-out RBI single from sophomore second-baseman Zach Goldstein (Merrick, N.Y.) in the bottom of the seventh, then tacked on three runs on just one base hit in the eighth.

Felician junior right-hander John Holland (Jackson, N.J.) (1-3) suffered the loss despite not allowing an earned run. Holland started and tossed four frames, yielding three hits and no walks while striking out one batter.

SNHU pitchers tallied 15 strikeouts in the game. Freshman lefty Rob Del Signore (Londonderry, N.H.) (1-0) started and picked up his first career win with eight punchouts in five frames. Del Signore gave up two singles and one walk. Classmate Justin Valdespina (Garfield, N.J.) fanned six in three scoreless frames, and Ben Criscuolo (Branford, Conn.) pitched a perfect ninth.

Senior shortstop Branden Shaw (Cooper City, Fla.) had a one-out triple in the top of the sixth for the Golden Falcons (5-9), but was left stranded. Goldstein finished 2 for 4 with a run scored and two RBI for the Penmen.
